Calculating the Power Consumption of a Pump
Pump Terminology
Wattage- Wattage measures the power of a pump. The cost of operating a pump with a specific wattage can be measured as follows:
Total monthly cost of operating a pump continuously = cost per kilowatt hour * 30 days in a month* 24 hours in a day * pump wattage / 1000
Example
Let's assume that your pump runs at 90 W and it costs you $0.07 per kW/h from your utility company.
Total monthly cost of operating pump = $0.07 kW/h * 30 days/month * 24 hours/day * 90 W / 1000 = $4.54.
Therefore, it would cost $4.54 per month to operate this pump continuously.
